From 16 December 2021, all car drivers who have passed their driving test since 1 January 1997 can tow a trailer up to 3,500kg in weight without the need to pass an additional car and trailer test.
Following this change, DVSA will use social media channels to continue to remind motorists about the need to tow safely and carry out safety checks before towing.
